Personal profile:

Mr Mahmood is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at Chesterfield Royal Hospital.

He has broad training and experience in managing the entire breadth of medical retina and uveitis conditions in addition to general eye conditions.

His areas of expertise include retinal vein occlusions, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, uveitis, ophthalmic primary care and cataract surgery in patients with or without retinal disorders.  His busy clinical practice is complemented by his involvement in teaching and research.

Mr Mahmood is ideally suited to offer patients the very latest treatments for retinal diseases, uveitis and general ophthalmology.

Mr Mahmood was in the top 10 of graduation at the medical school.  He completed his Basic Ophthalmic Specialist training in Tennent Institute of Ophthalmology in Glasgow, followed by training at University Hospital of Leicester (Leicester Royal Infirmary). 

Mr Mahmood's training culminated in a two-year retina and uveitis fellowships at University Hospital of Cambridge and Moorfields Eye Hospital working under world renowned Consultants including Mr Philip Hykin, Mr Carlos Pavesio and Professor S Lightman.  During this time, he gained broad experience in the management of all medical retina and uveitis disorders and developed a particular expertise in managing patients with these conditions in and around cataract surgery. 

Following his subspecialty training, Mr Mahmood was appointed as a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at Chesterfield Royal Hospital.  He is also the Clinical Lead for the Chesterfield retinal vein occlusion service.

Mr Mahmood is actively involved in audits, teaching and research with a particular interest in retinal diseases, uveitis and ophthalmic primary care.
