Training & background:

Mr Acharya is a Consultant Ophthalmologist in the NHS at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, with a private practice at Claremont.

He completed his ophthalmic specialist training in Birmingham and undertook Fellowships in Medical Retina at Aberdeen and Moorfields Eye Hospital, London.  He has an MD in Ophthalmology from the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi.

He has worked as a Medical Retina Consultant at the Birmingham & Midlands Eye Centre before being appointed to Sheffield in 2008.

He has published his research in retinal vein occlusion and socio-economics of age related macular degeneration in peer reviewed journals and is currently a co-investigator in numerous clinical trials for retinal disease.

He is currently an Educational Supervisor to junior ophthalmologists training in the Yorkshire and Humberside Deanery and also conducts Masterclasses in Ophthalmology at the University of Sheffield Medical School. He is an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Sheffield.
