'Back of the Net' Charity Event Hailed a Success Raising Over £1500 for St Luke's Hospice
Claremont’s ‘Back of the Net’ charity event held on Sunday 27 September has been hailed a huge success raising more vital funds for the city’s renowned St Luke’s Hospice.
Generously hosted by the world’s oldest football club Hallam FC, Claremont Finance Administrator Matt Bell came up with the football-themed fundraising idea in aid of Claremont’s chosen charity of the year St Luke’s. He teamed up with Anna Rodman, the Hospital Director’s PA and together, they made it happen.
4 teams made up of Claremont staff, Consultants from Sheffield Orthopaedics Ltd (SOL) and St Luke’s battled it out in an 11-a-side nail-biter resulting in the dramatic win for the Claremont Team.
With perfect weather, crowds turned out ready to cheer on the teams and get involved in the fun with a ‘Guess the Final Score’ and raffle with fantastic prizes including a Betty’s Hamper, SWFC & SUFC tickets and an amazing first prize of £200 Meadowhall Vouchers generously donated by the Consultant group Sheffield Orthopaedics Ltd.
The ‘Man of the Match’ trophy was also awarded to Claremont Sous Chef Luke Slaughter.
Mark Mortimer, Claremont's Head Chef also managed to raise £300 with a 'super cake sale' just ahead of the event.
Matt said “It was worth all the hard work to organise the event, I can’t believe how much we raised for St Luke’s! It was a great day and everyone turned out to support us all. Thank you to Anna for helping me organise the event and everyone who got involved.”
St Luke’s said on Twitter “Thank you Claremont and Hallam FC for your fantastic support.”
