Claremont celebrates 60 years
Claremont Private Hospital is celebrating 60 years providing quality healthcare to the people of Sheffield.
Claremont Private Hospital, on Sandygate Road, held a special garden party for consultants, GPs, staff, former staff and business partners to toast the success of the last six decades and also get a flavour for the hospital’s exciting redevelopment plans.
The hospital’s formative roots go back to the Institute of our Lady of Mercy, a catholic religious order set up in 1831, in Dublin. From its formation, the order was committed to offering nursing and social care and opened a house in Sheffield in 1883.
As part of its mission to help the sick and vulnerable, a group of sisters in Sheffield began to train as nurses and it led to the establishment of a nursing home in Claremont Place, close to where the Hallamshire Hospital now stands. It was the start of Claremont’s proud tradition of delivering quality healthcare to the City.
The home grew rapidly so in 1953 it moved to larger premises in Sandygate Road, site of the present hospital.
The Sisters withdrew from running Claremont in December 1996 and Aspen Healthcare, owners since 2012, has an ambitious growth strategy including investment in facilities, services and staff over the next three years.
Andy Davey, Hospital Director of Claremont Private Hospital, said: “We are extremely proud of our long links with the city of Sheffield and continue to pride ourselves on our strong heritage and reputation for quality.
“Over the past 60 years, healthcare has moved on considerably and we have been at the cutting edge of those changes. No more so than at the moment with a major investment programme that is already starting to transform the facilities and enhance the range of services we can provide.
“Plans include more operating theatres and consulting rooms, refurbishing all our bedrooms, creating a new day case unit and upgrading out diagnostic suite. It is a very exciting time as we are committed to building on our tradition and reputation to take our services to the next level.”
