New fast access gynaecological service for city
A Sheffield hospital has set up a new gynaecology service offering women fast access to consultations, diagnosis, advice and treatment.
The new rapid access service at Claremont Private Hospital provides prompt investigation, treatment and management of gynaecological problems and is designed to offer quick answers to female patients with worrying symptoms.
The service means privately insured or self-pay patients can usually be seen within two days at the Sandygate Road hospital.
Initial investigations such as cervical smears, colposcopy, ultrasound, endometrial biopsy and outpatient hysteroscopy are usually offered at a one-stop first consultation, with results then given at a follow-up appointment, normally within a week.
Mr Alan Gillespie, Consultant in Gynaecology and Gynaecological Oncology at Claremont, said: “This high quality service offers fast access for patients with anxiety causing symptoms including abnormal vaginal bleeding, abdominal pain and discomfort or anything else that may be causing concern.
“Reassuring patients as quickly as possible about the underling nature of their problem is a key goal of this service. Very often, there is nothing to worry about, but quick access to services results in high levels of patient satisfaction.”
