NHS Patients / Choose & Book

As part of the NHS Patient Choice scheme, you may now be able to have your NHS treatment at Claremont Private Hospital. This is know as 'Choose & Book'

What is Patient Choice?

Patient Choice is a government initiative introduced to give NHS patients more choice about where and when they are treated. It means that NHS patients in England who require hospital treatment will be offered a choice of hospitals or clinics for their treatment (including participating private hospitals) by their GP and one of the options could be Claremont Private Hospital. Can I choose Claremont Private Hospital for my NHS treatment?

Yes. However, not all of the services and treatments offered at Claremont are available as part of the Patient Choice scheme, only selected specialties. Also the number of appointments allocated to the scheme is limited, so we may not always have availability. To find out if you can have your NHS treatment at Claremont, simply ask to your GP.

Booking an appointment

How can you be referred to Claremont Private Hospital through NHS / Choose and Book?

Step 1 - Visit your GP and decide together that you need an appointment with a Consultant.
Step 2 - Ask your GP to refer you to 'Aspen/Claremont'. Referrals can be made by your GP to our 'Directly Bookable Service' enabling you to choose the date, and location of your appointment before you even leave your GP practice! Just ask your GP to search Choose & Book for 'Aspen/Claremont'

Don’t worry if your GP doesn’t use 'Directly Bookable Service' as referral can still be made in the following ways

  • Post to Claremont Private Hospital, Choose & Book Office, 401 Sandygate Road, Sheffield, S10 5UB

We guarantee to offer you a prompt appointment on receiving your referral – it’s as simple as that. Once your NHS appointment has been booked with us, you will receive a letter from Claremont confirming the details of your appointment and any instructions you may need to follow in preparation of your appointment.

The current NHS guidelines are 18 weeks from seeing your GP to receiving hospital treatment. If you would like to have your consultation or treatment sooner than this, then you may wish to consider coming as a private patient instead (see foot of page). 

Mixed-sex accommodation

The hospital has the necessary facilities, resources and culture to ensure that patients who are admitted to our hospitals will only have to share the room where they sleep with members of the same sex, and same sex toilets and bathrooms will be close to their bed area. Sharing with members of the opposite sex will only happen when clinically necessary (for example where patients need specialist equipment such as in an intensive care, acute assessment or high dependency area).

Pharmacy

As a provider of NHS services, Claremont Private Hospital will mirror the medicines usage at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. Visit http://www.sheffieldteachinghospitalsformulary.nhs.uk/ for more information.

Paying for my treatment

Every aspect of your treatment will be covered by the NHS. You will however, need to pay for personal items such as newspapers, meals for your visitors or telephone calls at the end of your stay in hospital, just like you would in an NHS hospital.
